The color ranges from creamy white in the sapwood to a dark chocolate color in the heartwood. When kiln dried, walnut wood tends toward a dull dark brown color but when condition can become rich purplish to dark brown. Because of its color, hardness and exotic grain, it is a prized furniture carving and decorative wood.
